When Erin (Krystal Lynn) survives a murder spree that claims the lives of all of her friends at a party, she struggles with survivor-guilt, the suspicions of the community, and rumours of the return of the town’s legendary masked killer, Johnny Baxter. As Halloween approaches, Erin and her classmates start to investigate, along with an oddball team of a homicide detective and his assistant officers.
Unrelated to the 2015 action film Final Girl, this is a whodunnit horror in the tradition of films like Scream, which focuses on mystery, rather than jump-scares. Although it suffers from some of the standard tropes of US horror, like high school students played by actors far too old, it makes the most of its minimal budget, and includes a few welcome laughs.
