The Apocalypse takes place whilst Seth Rogen and Jay Baruchel are attending James Franco’s housewarming party in Hollywood. They team up with guests Craig Robinson and Jonah Hill, and eventually gatecrasher Danny McBride to barricade themselves in the mansion. Initially whiling away their days by taking drugs and filming a sequel to Pineapple Express, as rescue fails to arrive, the group starts to believe Jay’s summation that what they’ve taken to be a massive earthquake might be the Biblical Apocalypse.
A high-concept comedy, the star-studded cast all play themselves as party guests. Micheal Cera provides the most comedy, with his inappropriate behaviour. Jonah Hill’s sycophantic performance was also good, and cameos from Mindy Kaling and Rihanna added to the celebrity house-party vibe.
