An ultra-low budget feature written by, directed and starring Ari Frenkel in the title role. Pluto lives without responsibilities care of an inherited trust fund, providing a room in his New York City apartment for his childhood friend Simon (Justin Anthony Long.) With Pluto as their financier, neither seems to work, Simon succumbing to his sleep disorder whilst Pluto partakes in his unique habit of adopting different personas each day.
Venturing into the city in an array of disguises, Pluto claims that his goal is only to bring moments of happiness to those he interacts with, however his stunts inevitably tracks chaos into the lives of those around him – none more so than the boyfriend (Dave Murgittroyd) of his sister (Cristina Marie.) Sent to therapy by his mother (Elaine Bromka,) Pluto’s therapist (Jon Barker) suggests his disguises have become an obsessive way of dealing with anxiety, something Pluto denies even as he can’t appear as himself to his lost love Olivia (Shamira Levy.)
Although the low-budget nature of Pluto is evident, the film works within its means, with a creative concept filmed fittingly in a blend of styles that seem like loving tributes to different genres more than they do parodies.
