Flitting between moments of off-beat comedy and harrowing cruelty, this stylish crime thriller moves at a driving pace, quite literally. Based on a South Korean Webtoon, the series sees down-on-his luck taxi driver Oh Taek accept a generous fare, who nonchalantly confesses to serial homicide during the drive. Meanwhile, Hwang Soon-Kyu has been conducting an investigation into her son’s murder, ruled by the police to be suicide.
With multiple narrators of varying reliability and tone, the show shifts rapidly between moments of hope and dread. As Oh Taek, Lee Sung-Min (from The Cat) is charming yet seemingly hapless. Yoo Yeon-Seok returns to the type of role that found him fame in Oldboy. The series may seem slow to start, as questions of the validity of the sinister undertones are raised, but those who stick with it, and have a strong stomach, will find the spiral into different paths of revenge to be gripping.
