Every year in Victoria, Australia over 60,000 students complete VCE exams. So opens Class Of, a mockumentary comedy series covering the students and teachers of Maluvlies Secondary College in Melbourne in the lead up to their exams.
Opportunistic young principal Mr Shankly has arranged for a documentary film crew to chart the final months of year 12 students in an effort to detract attention from Maluvlies’ dwindling exam results and win the favour of school district supervisor Teresa. In the tradition of shows like Summer Heights High or Stella Street, the bulk of the featured comedic characters are played by series creators Bede Mullan and Charlie Baker. Where the series shines, though, is in the responses to the over-the-top comedic characters from the supporting cast of straight players. Class Of adds some nice sit-com variety Melbourne’s Channel 31’s usual roster of factual programming.
