A shamelessly B-grade horror film that doesn’t try to be anything that more. Halloween at Aunt Ethel’s focuses on small town students – clearly played by actors older than their age – who seem to do little else than party.
Apparently trying to scare new-girl-in-town Melissa (Madeline Murphy,) Mandy and Mark (Stephanie Town and Sean Michael Gloria,) relay what seems like an off-the-cuff tale of old Aunt Ethel (Gail Yost,) a local kook supposed to have murdered her family, and spent the years after preying on local children each Halloween. When people start to go missing in the lead up to Halloween, Melissa wonders if the tales of Aunt Ethel may carry some truth.
Luckily, the film doesn’t take itself too seriously. It could have tried to be ‘so bad it’s good,’ but would have ended up just being bad. Instead, it’s aimed squarely at silliness – proving it by finishing with the characters returning for an Aunt Ethel rap song.
